Shoe care

Shoes have to endure a lot and it is important to take good care of them to keep them looking good for as long as possible. Well-cared for shoes not only retain their appearance, but also remain comfortable to wear for longer.

Shoes are often made of leather, a tanned animal skin that, just like our own skin, remains most beautiful when properly cared for. Protection, care (feeding, colouring, shining) and cleaning are the most important aspects of shoe care. Without care, leather can lose its suppleness.

Use the right products regularly to keep your shoes in top condition. Collonil, a globally recognized premium brand, offers products for protection, care, cleaning and coloring, so that your shoes remain beautiful and well cared for for a long time.

Take your time to close the zipper without pulling hard and make sure you always close the zipper completely to maintain its functionality. For metal zippers, you can use candle wax to make them more flexible. Please note: we do not provide a guarantee on wear and tear of zippers.

Practical tips for long-term maintenance

  • Tip 1: Use shoe and boot stretchers
Shoe trees help to repair walking creases, keep shoes in shape and absorb moisture. Wooden trees have the added benefit of a pleasant smell. Boot trees prevent zippers from breaking, reduce 'crumple zones' and help ventilate the upper material.

  • Tip 2: Use a shoehorn
Always put on your shoes or boots with a shoehorn. This protects the lining and heel reinforcement of your shoes.

  • Tip 3: Do not immediately pack injected shoes
If you have sprayed your shoes, do not pack them immediately. Shoes packed wet can become sticky, which can damage the finish.

  • Tip 4: Avoid using heating to dry wet shoes
Never dry your wet shoes directly at the heater. The high temperature can shrink fabric and dry out leather.

  • Tip 5: Change your shoes
Shoes absorb perspiration. To ensure your shoes are well ventilated, we recommend alternating them every two to three days so they have the chance to "breathe out".
